Alan Cady

Research Interests

Alan Cady is a field ecologist with broad interests in spider behavioral ecology. His investigations employ field experiments to help understand how these predators influence arthropod community structure.

Recent efforts investigate how applications of common pesticides or herbicides influence spider behavior, reproduction, and efficiency as predators in agroecosystems. This is part of his long-time interest in spiders as agents of biological control. Another related project seeks to determine the importance of hedgerows in agricultural systems.

Dr. Cady has also investigated the biochemical basis of sleep from an immunological perspective. He is now tracing the evolution of sleep by investigating endogenous control of rest-activity cycles in cockroaches. His diverse training extends into the classroom where he teaches zoology, ecology, and physiology courses.
